Protecting Your Mac with Anti-Theft

The Anti-Theft service offers you a unique opportunity to track down your Mac if it gets lost or stolen.

1Activate the service in the MacKeeper application.

Important

You should be logged in to MacKeeper with your Kromtech account to activate Anti-Theft. Activate the service BEFORE your Mac gets stolen!

2If your Mac gets stolen, from any other computer go either to the My Account page of the MacKeeper website, or directly to http://account.kromtech.net.

3Go to the Anti-Theft tab or click Details near Anti-Theft under Services.

4Select the computer in the list, and then click Report stolen computer.

5If you did not provide your phone number during registration, enter it in the Phone field, and then click Computer was stolen.

6After your Mac goes online, Anti-Theft will generate a report on its location and send it to you together with the thief snapshot – a feature for Mac computers with iSight web cameras. Thief snapshot is automatically activated after you click Computer was stolen.

Tip

Even if your Mac has no iSight, you should still leave Thief Snapshot activated, because the thief can connect a separate webcam to a stolen Mac.

7Then a customer support representative will call you and give detailed guidelines on how to communicate with the police and get your Mac back.

8In addition to the phone call, you will receive an email message with the up-to-date report. If the customer support representative cannot reach you on the phone, you will get the guidelines in the email as well. To view the location report from your Kromtech account, click the computer name, and then choose See location report.

9You will see the two tabs: Location report history and Snapshots. The Location report history tab contains the log of all location reports. The log includes computer name(s), date, IP address, geographic address, and technical details. The Snapshots tab contains webcam photos of the thief.

10After the police finds your Mac, go to http://account.kromtech.net, and then click Computer was found.
