Locating Files with Files Finder

Files Finder scans your Mac's hard drive for all files of the selected file type. You can choose one of the preset filters to find files on your Mac, or experiment with your own filters.
When you open Files Finder, its work area will look like this:

The left pane contains filters divided into four groups. Click the disclosure triangle near each group to expand it. When you select each filtering option, the right pane will show its description and the graphical scheme of its working principle.

To activate the filter, click the Start Scan button, and all files found in your user folder will appear in the results list. You can also view the last scan results for each filter by clicking the Scan Results button, and search in a specific folder by clicking the Change Folder button. You can start the scan right after you choose the folder by selecting the Start Scan Immediately checkbox (it is selected by default). The scan results will show the file name along with the last opened date and size.

The Start scan immediately option is selected by default, meaning that the scan will start automatically once the folder is changed.
The found items are not checked by default so you can select them using the checkboxes or the Check/Uncheck buttons. To move the files to Trash, click Remove. To use the filter one more time, click Rescan. To preview the files, click the Quick Look button. To search for a specific file, use the Filter field.

And now let’s take a look at each filter group.
1Video: Enables you to search for movies on your Mac. The following options are available:
- Old Movies: Finds movies you have not seen for more than a year.
- All Movies: Finds all movies on your Mac.
- 25 Latest: Finds 25 recent movies you have seen.
- Short Videos: Finds all short videos (less than 500 MB) on your Mac.
2Audio: Enables you to search for songs and other sounds on your Mac. The following options are available:
- Old Music: Finds songs you have not listened to for more than a year.
- Oldest 100: Finds 100 oldest audio files on your Mac.
- 50 Latest: Finds 50 recent songs you have listened to.
- Audiobooks: Finds all audiobooks (.m4b files) on your Mac.
3Other: Enables you to search for photos and documents on your Mac. The following options are available:
- Old Photos: Finds photos you have not seen for more than a year.
- 50 Biggest Docs: Finds 50 largest documents on your Mac.
- 50 Recent Docs: Finds 50 recently opened documents on your Mac.
- 50 Biggest Archives: Finds 50 largest archive files on your Mac.
4Custom Presets: Enables you to create your own filters based on the following criteria:
- file type, size, name, path, and extension
- creation, modification and access dates

To make a custom preset from the existing one, select any predefined preset and click Duplicate from the action button pop-up menu or use the Add/Remove buttons.
